Makeup Bag Makeover
Posted on January 10 2018
We’re welcoming the New Year with family, friends, celebrations, but also a few good resolutions. Besides the usual --- drinking more water (*and less coffee), eating healthy and doing a little more at the gym, my first, and completely achievable resolution is uncluttering my cosmetic bag!
Because makeup has expiration dates just like food, the start of a new year is the perfect time for a makeup bag makeover. The skin is your body’s largest organ and although it can be our best feature, it also takes the brunt of environmental damage caused by pollution, wind, weather and other impurities. When makeup goes bad, it could be doing more harm than good to your skin. Using expired cosmetics can lead to breakouts, inflammation, allergic reactions and worst of all—gulp—bacterial infections!
Not that you have to dump everything in the trash and light a match...just think back to when you purchased your cosmetics. If you can’t even remember when you bought it, toss it. If they’re still good, consider these helpful tips:
How Long Does Makeup Last?
Eyeliner: 6 months to 1 year
Mascara: 3-6 months
Blushes, Eye Shadows & Powders: 1-2 years
Lipstick: 2 years
Foundation: 6 months to 2 years
Tossing out your old makeup is also a good opportunity to try something new, so why not go natural? Vegan products are made from all-natural, organic ingredients that are not derived from animals. Cruelty-free products are not tested on animals, so you can rest assured, no bunnies were harmed in the manufacturing of these products:
