10 Fashion Trends We Want Gone in 2019

With 2019 well underway, as the saying goes, it's out with the old and in with the new. Making a fresh start is all about clearing the decks and saying bye-bye to all those 90's-inspired pop culture fashion pitfalls that were awesome in 2018...but may have overstayed their welcome. Today on Zeena Uncovered, we're giving you the rundown on the top 10 trends we want gone for good in 2019.

#1 - Skinny Sunglasses

While there's no time like the present to experiment with new styles, jumping on the bandwagon for trends can quickly lead to oversaturation and before you know it, everyone from your local barista to your next door neighbor is wearing itty-bitty Matrix sunglasses. When that happens, well...there's nothing special about them anymore. We suggest you hold onto your slim sunnies for one more summer, but think about phasing them out with a classic style that frames the shape of your face (and offers a little more UV protection).

#2 - Red Eyes

Flaming hot eyeshadow is not for everyone. And while there is something hauntingly vampy about a cherry red eye, it's easy to miss the mark and end up looking theatrical instead of glamorous (and not in a good way). We recommend choosing a palette that compliments the natural color of your eyes...and if warm tones suit your mood, remember the rule of thumb--less is more.

#3 - Hair Bows

There is a time and place for big, floppy hair ribbons. If you're feeling equestrian, by all means, bring on the bows! But keep in mind, this looks screams 'cheerleader' or 'kindergarten' and unless that's what you're going for, it's okay to pack away this trend for your next pajama party.

#4 - Clear Plastic Shoes

We get it. Cinderella wore glass slippers. But see-through plastic? What we used to call 'jellies' before the new millennium made a huge comeback in 2018 in the form of everything from heels to boots, sandals, handbags and even jeans. Call us crazy, but we fail to see the benefits of a shoe that offers zero breathability and holds just as much odor as hot tupperware. Besides, after reading The Dangers of Plastic Shoes in Vogue Magazine, we are happy to say adios to looking like a PVC princess and instead prefer to embrace more comfortable (and less steamy ) styles like mules, loafers and leather sneakers.

#5 - Puffy 'Snow White' Sleeves

We can chuck fairy tale shoulders right up there with plastic slippers. While we've had our fun with puffy sleeves, the door is closing on this Rennaisance-meets-modern fashion trend.

#6 - Highlighter Overload

Radiant, iridescent cheeks, made famous by YouTube and Instagram beauty bloggers, is one skincare trend even makeup artists loathe. "Highlight that is too shiny can make you look like a light bulb," says Insider, "It's supposed to be used to create a glow — not high beams. A sheen, smooth texture of highlight is the best and will give you a nice glow that you're looking for."

#7 - Ugly Sneakers

Sneakerheads rejoice: ugly footwear mania has no intention of going anywhere. According to Who What Wear, this trend is only going to get bigger in 2019 and the sneakers...well, uglier. While wacky sneakers are stubbornly clinging to their popularity, it leaves us wondering what the rest of your outfit should look like.

#8 - Fake Lashes

Falsies have been around for decades and will probably never go out of style. Last year, long, fluttery, look-at-me lashes ranked among Pinterest's top 100 beauty trends of 2018 and continue to dominate search engines and beauty stores across the county. If you're perfectly content with your lush lashes, by all means, continue to glue, peel and repeat, but if you're seeking a more permanent solution, you may already own it. Consider the next biggest trend -- the homegrown all-natural look.

#9 - Stretchy Chokers

Stringy, stretchy tattoo chokers are quintessential 90's vintage style...but so were yin-yangs, butterfly clips, baggy track pants and Pog (but you don't see kids stacking milk caps anymore!). If you are singlehandedly trying to revive your parent's closet, then maybe this trend is for you? But in our opinion, these rubber band necklaces need to go the way of the dinosaurs -- or A.L.F....whichever comes first.

#10 - Giant Logos

The bigger the better doesn't necessarily ring true for showing off your favorite designer brand. Larger-than-life logos are like typing an email in ALL CAPS. Do you really have to shout? We think it's time for this one to make a quiet exit.
