Personal Style: Modest Essentials for Every Body Type
Posted on August 28 2019
Summer is drawing to a close and we’re about to enter that tricky transitional time between warm, sunny days and cool, breezy nights, where the last thing you need is a complicated outfit. And with the kids going back to school, now is the perfect time to get your modest wardrobe ready for the change of seasons. So, whether you’re tall, curvy, or on the petite side, today on the blog, we’re sharing essential styling tips for looking good no matter your body type.
Call them what you will, a long flowy waistcoat, kimono or trench vest is a staple in our closet. These modest cover-ups are the key to achieving an everyday cohesive look with minimal effort. Keep it neutral for a day at the office or add instant elegance with a floral design. Begin with a long-sleeved tee or blouse and slip into your favorite pair of trousers. As the weather cools, wear a lightweight sweater or turtleneck underneath for added coverage. If you're tall and can't live without your leggings & flats, choose a pop color for high contrast. For shorter frames, try wearing your waistcoat open with a tucked-in top and make a statement with a complimentary belt.

No matter the season, we keep our wide-leg pants on a daily rotation (*and yes, we’re still obsessed with them!). Ranging in width from trousers to palazzos to culottes, these figure-flattering miracles look amazing on everyone because they hold the power to smooth out your curves. For tall body types, wide-leg pants create a clean vertical line that elongates your legs. They can also be the focus of your outfit all on their own, so if you haven’t tried color blocking in 2019, what are you waiting for? We love bright neon tones with neutrals. If you’re petite, we recommend styling your blouse with a trendy half-tuck and a vibrant printed wrap.
A Detachable Collar
Need a quick fix for that plunging V-neck? All too often, we find ourselves falling in love with a gorgeous sweater or wrap dress, even though the neckline may require more layering than we’re prepared for. But there's no reason to worry, you can elevate your look with a one-size-fits-all accessory that compliments every body shape. And the good news is, our Base Layer Collection includes such a varied mix of plain and embellished collars that you always have control of your level of glam!
The Midi Skirt
You don’t have to be super tall to work a midi skirt into your modest wardrobe. As petite women ourselves, we hover around the 5-foot mark, yet find mid-calf skirts to be one of the most flattering silhouettes around. If you’re short and curvy, they can be incredibly charming, especially when paired with just the right heel (or knee-high boots as fall approaches). We find midi skirts offer the same versatility as a great pair of jeans. Dress them up with a jaw-dropping top (think sequins!), or tone things down with a casual blouse and denim jacket or blazer.
We hope our styling tips inspire you to try something new this season!
