Our Favorite Moments from #NYFW 2019
Posted on February 20 2019
Who isn't still reeling with excitement after watching personal stylist Hakeemah Cummings @HakeemahCMB on WUSA9 Great Day Washington? Presenting three modest fashion looks inspired by New York Fashion Week, we are so proud of Hakeemah for her beautiful representation of Muslim creatives making a positive difference in the fashion industry and lighting up our homes with her eloquent words. As we continue to explore #UncoverModesty and the rise of modest fashion in the mainstream, today on Zeena Uncovered we're re-living the best runway moments from New York Fashion Week 2019 along with a few street-style looks that will leave you ready to take a bite out of the Big Apple.
Noor Tagouri
In her first ever runway appearance, journalist, storyteller and activist, Noor Tagouri @Noor was a lovely surprise closing the all-inclusive Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2019 show wearing the multidimensional Clover Jumpsuit and matching hijab. Yes, we said it...matching! Keep an eye out for more 'prints on prints' looks this season and you'll stay right on-trend.
Halima Aden
We loved watching Halima Aden @Halima walking for Sherri Hill and UNICEF USA in that jaw-dropping beaded gown! Proving fashion is more than what's on the surface, Halima is using her supermodel powers for good, helping children in need across the globe. If you haven't already entered the make a donation drawing, do so by February 28th for your chance to win this gorgeous dress.
Mademoiselle Meme
Tastemaker and fashion blogger Marwa Meme Biltagi @MademoiselleMeme is exceptional in her pleated midi by Self-Portrait worn beneath a midnight blue Claudia Dress coat from @GiulivaHeritageCollection. We still can't get over her raspberry-red shoe + tights + bag combo from Meme's own collection. "Opaque tights are the trend for the season," she says, "be it pastels or a cherry red, they instantly add a different dimension to any look." (Read her full interview with the Modist here.)
Maria Alia
Globetrotting diva Maria Alia @MariaAlia reminds us why the trench coat (or trench dress) will never go out of style. Frosted with a saffron red hijab from @velascarves, it's easy to recreate this look with a pair of white cowboy boots and your coolest shades.
Hajra Tariq
Native New Yorker and Instagram fashionista Hajra Tariq @Hajra_aaa is definitely one to watch. No bunnies were harmed in the making of this sweeping statement coat from @Heurueh (hoo-roo). It's 100% synthetic and cruelty-free, an ethical choice for dressing up a slim black trouser and matching hijab.
