Modest Made Simple
Posted on January 24 2018
When you hear the word modest, it’s easy to think of lifeless clothing full of uninspiring restrictions. Well, not anymore! In this post, we're sharing our favorite tips for dressing modestly with style.
First, let’s talk about what modesty is not.
Modesty is not feeling bogged down by heavy fabric. Modesty is not boring or matronly. I believe that clothing has the power to inspire feelings of confidence and reflect your personality in creative ways. When I think of modesty, I don't think of restrictions...I imagine a list of fashion guidelines that help me find clothes that represent my personal values. Within those guidelines, there are so many unique combinations to try...but getting dressed doesn't have to be a puzzle. At Zeena, we want to make it easy for you to look and feel your best every day.
Simple Tips for Dressing Modestly
Cover the basics by focusing on 4 key areas: shirt length, neckline, sleeves and accessories.
1. Shirt Length – The skinnier the pants, the longer the top. Since every body type is unique, an easy way to measure for your perfect shirt length is to drop your hands to your sides and take a note of how far down your fingertips reach. If you are wearing a skirt or wide leg pants, choose wrist-length tops that cover a little below the waistband.
What's a base layer?
A good foundation is essential for looking and feeling flawless. The base layer gives you the length you need for layering without the extra bulk. Switch up your sleeve style with cardigans, wraps or dusters. Consider a wide lapel coat as a versatile addition to your wardrobe.

2. Neckline – Choose shirts with high neckline such as crew necks, cowls, classic button-ups or turtlenecks. Cover up plunging necklines with a detachable collar or one of our viscose wraps.
3. Sleeves – Have fun with your sleeves! Play with ruffles, butterfly pleats, bell sleeves, lace or puffed shoulders. For more ideas, check out our sleeves inspiration board on Pinterest!
4. Accessories – My favorite way to express my personal style is with accessories! Add bling to your neckline with a chunky statement necklace. Pile on the arm candy with a stack of colorful bracelets or get swinging with some ethnic tassel earrings. For a vintage look, pin a brooch to your lapel (*or your hijab) or experiment with collar clips. We have ideas galore on our Statement Jewelry Pinterest board!
