Breakfast Made Simple
We’re no strangers to waking up early, but sometimes the pre-dawn sahoor can feel a little daunting, especially when you’re short on time. Smoothies are a great way to speed things up and give your body the proper nutrients it needs to power through a fasting day. Here's how to prep easy smoothie freezer packs for those grab-n'-go mornings:
- Buy fresh fruit in bulk or pre-mixed fruit from the freezer section.
- Wash and slice everything, all at once. This may take over your kitchen, but consider the time you'll save later!
- Use freezer-safe Ziploc bags to portion out what you’ll need for each smoothie. In the morning, simply grab one and blend! Add a teaspoon of wheat germ for extra fiber or Greek yogurt for extra protein.

5-Minute Sahoor Ideas
Wondering what to eat alongside your smoothie? Here’s a list of tasty breakfast ideas you can whip up in 5 minutes or less:
- A bagel and cream cheese with fresh blueberries topping (or sliced tomatoes).
- Eggs served with toast and sliced avocados. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with black pepper.
- Instant oatmeal with a brown sugar and walnut topping.
- Yogurt with granola.
- Whole grain cereal and milk with banana slices.
For those 90-mph mornings, try a little nighttime baking with our Recipe of the Week: Brown Sugar Banana Muffins!
2 peeled, mashed bananas
1/3 cup melted butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 cups of flour
pinch of salt
pinch of cinnamon
Mash bananas in a large bowl with a fork. Stir in melted butter, egg, sugar and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix baking soda and flour. Combine wet and dry ingredients, folding batter gently with a rubber spatula. Do not overmix. Bake at 350F for 18-20 minutes or until the edge of the muffins are golden brown. Makes one dozen.
Time-Saving Style Secrets
Working mom, fashion designer, and Zeena CEO Bayan Jondy knows a thing or two about strategizing in the ever-present race against the clock. But for those extra crazy-hectic days, she relies on 5 basic rules for cutting her morning fashion routine in half. So, what's her secret?
Rule #1 - Go Monochrome. Stick to neutrals and drape a printed scarf over your outfit for instant sophistication.
Rule #2 - Toss on a blazer. Choose a pop color or print over a Basic Layering Tank, then finish your look with a bold hijab.
Rule #3 - Midi + Skinnies = done! A calf-length midi dress is a one-piece wonder. Jump into a pair of black skinnies and go! No thinking required.
Rule #4 - Create a focal point. Use a great belt as the center of your outfit over a pair of wide-leg pants. Reach for a no-iron top, such as a lightweight sweater.
Rule #5 - Accessorize the ordinary. Even a little bit of sparkle can make a big difference. Bedazzle your neckline with a statement necklace or a rhinestone collar and turn a plain top into a conversation piece.
