Ramadan Reflections

Thank you to everyone for being a part of our first ever Zeena Ramadan Series! Today in Part IV, we wanted to say a bittersweet farewell to Ramadan and reflect on the lessons we learned during this special time. We're also sharing our top three tips for a stress-free Eid, plus sweet treats your entire family will love! If you haven't heard the news, we're planning a special event you won't want to miss...and we've got all the details for how you can be a part of it!

A Ramadan Farewell

With Ramadan coming to a close, it's hard not to feel mixed emotions. We've grown used to the long, thoughtful nights, early morning breakfasts and the highs and lows of staying focused throughout a fasting day. With each moment bringing us closer to our spiritual goals, it's time to say goodbye to this wonderful month of blessings and remembrance.

From the CEO, Bayan Jondy --

This year, our kids made Ramadan extra special. Their excitement to fast at school and on the weekends really made it more enjoyable for our entire family. Watching them wait for the weekend so they could attend Taraweeh prayers with us was a beautiful reminder of how much they've grown! Last Ramadan, I’d usually have a glass of water, but this years suhoor was a full made-to-order gourmet breakfast with the kids every day! It really allowed us to reflect and spend quality time together without all the distractions that life throws at you.

A Stress-Free Eid Holiday

With Eid al-Fitr right around the corner, there is so much to do and plenty to be grateful for! With all the shopping, family get-togethers and preparations happening all at once, here are 3 helpful tips to enjoy your Eid holiday this year...while staying cool as a cucumber.

    • Plan ahead. Create an Eid agenda so you and your family know what to expect on the big day. Include locations, driving directions and times. With an agenda, you can easily avoid double-booking!
    • Prep your special outfits in advance. Avoid the last-minute drama of hunting down that perfect hijab or rummaging in your closet for that lost pair of kitten heels. Start the search today and save your sanity! Whether this means paying a trip to the cleaners or laundering at home, taking the time to get your all your clothing ready for Eid will save you time when you're down to the wire.
    • Wrap and stash. We love presents! Especially the joy of watching our little ones' eyes light up when they tear open their first gift! But after a long morning of prayers and traveling, no one wants to come home to a room full of unwrapped gifts (*been there, done that!). Wrapping your presents early and storing them out of sight will help you feel at ease when Eid arrives. Space it out, even if it means making your gifts beautiful for only an hour each day, little by little. Check out our Happy Eid Gift Bags for tie-n-go treats!

Recipe of the Week: COO Amany's Chocolate Chip Cookies

There is nothing more welcoming than the smell of warm, gooey cookies baking in the oven. Send everyone running to the table for these delicious kid-friendly sweets that are a perfect potluck treat...or a midnight snack!

          Chocolate Chip Cookies

          Ingredients:

          1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

3/4 cup packed light brown sugar

          1/2 cup sugar

          2 large eggs

          1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 (12-ounce) bag semisweet chocolate chips, M&M’s or chocolate chunks

          2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

          3/4 teaspoon baking soda

          1 teaspoon fine salt

Put the butter in a microwave-safe bowl, cover and microwave on medium power until melted. Whisk the sugars, eggs, butter and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth. Whisk the flour, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients with a wooden spoon; take care not to over mix. Gently stir in the chocolate chips, candy or chunks. Bake 375 for 6-8 minutes until golden brown. Serve with a tall glass of milk.
